St. Michael’s Weekly Post – For Week Beginning 29th November 2019

29th November 2019

Message from the School Council & Sue Rodd:

This year’s Christingle Service is on Sunday 1st December in the church at 4pm. It‘s a lovely way to start the run-up to Christmas, as we celebrate Jesus’ light coming into the world!  Some of the children will be helping make the Christingles in school, so there will be plenty for all.  We will also be blessing the chocolates and chocolate oranges brought by the children instead of Christmas cards that we’ll be sending to the Food Collective to make someone else’s Christmas brighter.  The cash collection goes to support the work of the Children’s Society, so it’s a good way of having fun that also benefits someone else less fortunate.  Finally, the Posada figures (Mary, Joseph and the donkey) will be starting their house-to-house journey round the village, ending at the Crib Service on Christmas Eve.  Sign-up sheets will be in the church.

Year 6: On Thursday 5th December Year 6 will be attending a Chemistry Demonstration at Marlborough College.  We would like some parent volunteers to provide transport there and back where possible.  Please consent for your child to attend the demonstration and indicate if you can help with transport by completing the form overleaf.

Studs and School Shoes:  Please can you ensure that if your child has pierced ears they wear small studs to school.  If possible, please can children refrain from wearing boots and have school shoes. Thank you for your co-operation.

Reception Forest School:  At this time of year the forest is a muddy place. We firmly believe that playing in nature is beneficial for children’s well-being and social skills. We want the children to spend as much time in the forest as possible so they will be coming home in their forest school clothes. They may be very muddy. Parents are more than welcome to change children in the reception outdoor area after school.

Message from Miss Mearns:  We would like some boxes for the children to use to build with – shoe boxes and larger are ideal for them to make boats, rockets, castles etc. We would also like some magazines with photos that appeal to children: cars, wildlife etc. for them to ‘read’ and maybe cut out some of the pictures.

Cake Sale:  On Friday 13th December Liam Munday will be holding a cake sale after school to raise money for Dorothy Hospice at Winsley who looked after his Grandad.  Come along and support such a great cause.

Message from the Aldbourne Heritage Centre: Operation Nightingale will feature on Digging for Britain in their WW2 special on the 11th December 2019.  For more details see https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000c5yk .  More background information can be found at:https://aldbournearchive.wordpress.com/2019/11/18/digging-for-britain-in-aldbourne/
