St. Michael’s Weekly Post – 7th January 2022

7th January 2022

Happy New Year! We hope you all managed to have a restful Christmas break.

We would like to welcome Isabella and Lucas who joined our school this term. We hope you will be very happy here.

PE and Forest School
PE and Forest school will take place on the following days this term. Children are to come to school in their PE/Forest School clothing on the appropriate day.
Class Name PE Day Forest School
Acorn (Reception) Friday Tuesday
Hazel (Year 1) Wednesday
Birch (Year 2) Tuesday Monday
Cherry (Year 3) Tuesday Wednesday
Elder (Year 4) Wednesday
Rowan (Year 5) Monday
Oak (Year 6) Friday

Winter Clothing
During these colder months, with our windows are wide open to help stop the spread of Covid-19. We therefore recommend children come to school in lots of layers. Long sleeve vests/t-shirts and leggings/long johns under their uniform or a school fleece are best. We also suggest children have named hat, scarf and gloves in school, along with their wellies, for break times.

Ministry of Defence Funding
We are thrilled to share that we have made a successful application from the 2022 MOD Education Support Fund (ESF) and elements of our submission will be funded. We will be able to use the money to continue to support our military families, particularly in relation to exceptional impact of mobility and/or separation.

Elder Class and invited pupils will be commencing swimming lessons at Hungerford Leisure Centre this term. A separate letter will be sent to parents with the full details. Payments are to be made via ParentPay from Monday, please.

Volunteer Readers
We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to spend some time listening to the children read, ideally in the afternoons. Whether you can spare just 30 minutes or one afternoon a week or more, we would greatly appreciate any help you can offer. Please email admin@stmichaelsaldbourne.co.uk if you are able to help in any way to enable us to undertake the relevant DBS checks. Thank you in advance for your support.

Pedestrian Safety
Can we please ask that on your way to and from school you remind children when walking around the village to be extra vigilant on their journey, particularly when crossing the roads. We are part of a wonderful village which does get very busy at these times and we really would hate for there to be an accident.

Parent Governor Elections
We will soon have our Parent Governor Elections. Please consider if you would like to join our wonderful team of Governors. More details about our Governors and their roles can be found on our website & we will provide further information about the elections in the New Year.

Message from the PTA – Santa Dash
The PTA would like to pass on a huge thank you to all those who donated to the school for the Santa Dash, nearly £300 was raised. Every penny is gratefully received.

Message from St Michael’s Church – Sparklers
Sparklers will return in Church on Monday, after school drop off (around 9am) until 11am. The sessions are for preschool age children and younger siblings, along with their parents/carers. Please speak to Sue Rodd should you have any questions.
