St. Michael’s Weekly Post – 15th October 2018

Notices

Earrings in School:  If your children’s earrings cannot be removed, please can you supply covering tape for your child to keep in their bag to be used during P.E. Lessons.

Year 1 and 2 Swindon Fire Station Trip:  Please consent to your child attending this trip on ParentPay. Children without consent will be unable to attend the trip.  As you know, we will be visiting Swindon Fire Station on Monday 15th October (Year 2) and Tuesday 16th October (Year 1).  In order to get the most out of the visit, all children will need to bring waterproof trousers and a waterproof coat with them. The children will put these and their school wellies on before they get on the coach.  They should wear normal school uniform to school (ideally with trousers). They will return to school in time for lunch so there is no need to make any alternative lunch arrangements.

Year 5 and 6 Trip to Swindon Gurdwara:  Both Mr Jarvis and Mr Pavey still need volunteers to drive to Swindon on Tuesday 16th October at 12.15pm. If you can help please fill out the form overleaf and return to the office by Monday 15th October.  Unfortunately, if we do not have enough volunteers the trip may not go ahead. You will also need to complete the form to give permission for your child to attend the trip.

Year 5 – Braeside trip 7th November 2018: Many thanks to all those who have returned their medical forms and made payment for this trip. If you have not already done so, please return your child’s medical form today or at the latest Monday 15th October. Please make payment for this trip as soon as possible but before 6th November. If you have any queries regarding this trip or payment for the trip, please see Mrs Hamilton in the school office. Thank you.

ParentPay – outstanding amounts:  For the previous 2 academic years there is £2,400 still outstanding for trips. We always try to arrange our trips as cost effectively as possible to give every child these opportunities which can only be provided if parents are willing to contribute. Therefore, it would be very much appreciated if you could double check your account and arrange payment for outstanding amounts. If you have any queries please see Mrs Lipscombe or Mrs Hamilton in the school office who will be delighted to help.

Headlice:  We are having re-occuring cases of headlice across the school.  In an effort to combat this problem, can we please ask you to check your child’s hair, and treat all family members.

Harvest Festival: Parents are very welcome to come and share our Harvest Festival on Friday 19th October, 11am in St Michael’s Church.  Once again we are joining with the church to support Swindon Food Bank.  Children are invited to bring tins or dried products into school from Monday 15th October as their harvest gift.

Message from Friends of St Michael’s School

Tesco Bags of Help:  Thank you to everyone who supported us over the summer.  £1,000 was donated towards the running track.  Fantastic!

Oktoberfest:  What an amazing night and raising over £1,000 for the school.  Thank you to everyone involved.

St Michael’s Annual Welly Walk:  Don’t forget our Annual Welly Walk next week (Friday 19th October) to raise money for our school.  We would encourage sponsorship through https://uk/virginmoneygiving.com/giving/

Christmas Cards:  Unfortunately we will not be producing Christmas cards this year.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

Message from Sue Rodd

Join us for our Community Service on the 21st October at 11am.  (Breakfast available from 10.15)  This is the culmination of the A-Ha! Aldbourne Harvest Appeal, and someone from the Swindon Food Collective will be coming to tell us about their work, and to receive our badly-needed gifts of food and money.  Individuals and groups across the village have been collecting for this important cause. Please come and help celebrate our wonderful community, as we enjoy the fruits of the harvest and share with those less fortunate.
