Friends of St Michael’s School, Aldbourne
Every parent or carer of children at St Michael’s is a member of the Friends of St Michael’s School, Aldbourne. There is an executive committee (like trustees) of 7 who are responsible for making it legal (as it is a charity) but the more people who would like to be involved the better in every respect – be it baking, helping make events work, coffee mornings or idea generation for fundraising!
What are we raising money for?
Despite government and Church of England funding there will always be a financial shortfall and if our children are to get the education they deserve then we are going to need to help raise money. The school will always have outgoings that need extra funds and this is where the fundraising comes in.
This fundraising has been spent on building works, coaches to theatre trips, chocolate eggs, ice lollies and hot chocolate at events for the children as well as amazing whiteboards and iPads for the classrooms. Everything should help towards our children learning and enjoying their school experience as much as possible.
If you would like to be involved in any of these events, buy a ticket or have some wonderful fundraising ideas of your own then please email email@example.com or better still come along to the next meeting or come to any of the coffee mornings to find out more.
The Spring term has got off to a gentle start after our wonderfully busy Christmas term. The school is still enjoying its associations with our sponsors JONES ROBINSON estate agents in Marlborough and DICK LOVETT in Hungerford. Jones Robinson are sponsoring a colouring competition to celebrate their new branch opening in Marlborough. First prize will be £50 toy voucher and £500 donation to your school, 2nd prize is £30 and £300 to the school and 3rd prize is a £20 toy voucher and £200 to the school. You should all have received a copy of their colouring competition in your Book Bags. Make sure you return them to Jones Robinson by 2nd April for your chance to win!
The SAFARI SUPPER was organised by the Governors and many parents as well as members of the Community had a thoroughly enjoyable night meeting new people as they travelled around the village for their starter, main and dessert! The evening made over £800 for the school!
The PANCAKE EVENT was a popular new event and a bit of rain wasn’t enough to put 80 children off enjoying it! Dexter Lewis proved to be an awesome flipper at the event winning the prestigious first place. All the children then enjoyed pancakes, fruit and ice cream, raising £275 for the school! A big thank you to all that helped with this event, your support is really appreciated.
POPCORN CLUB was last Friday and the kids enjoyed a film with a drink a snack of popcorn, it raised nearly £300! It’s a really good event to help out at and if anyone fancies giving a hand to make an event like this work we’d love to hear from you.
We are still one of the chosen charities for the ALDBOURNE COOP again this year – do make sure you sign up and use your Coop card whenever you purchase anything to continue to support us!
We always need volunteers for our events to make them happen! If you would like to be involved in:
- – Running a bar at the circus
- – Planning a stall for the Fair
- – Volunteering for Popcorn Club
- – Helping run a bouncy castle at the fair
then please let Michelle or Alex know or email: firstname.lastname@example.org

Does your employer offer match funding?
We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you about the Match Funding scheme and how a little bit of your time could raise double the funds.
If you work for an organisation that has a match funding policy, any money you raise could be matched by your employer. Companies may match the fundraising total for an event, or for the stall that their employee is working on. Usually, the employee will need to supply them with a letter from the PTA detailing the date and nature of the event, together with the total raised.
We understand that the high street banks, building societies, supermarkets and large corporations are likely to do match funding. We’ve put together a list of some of the companies that ran schemes in 2017 here. But these schemes are not exclusive to the major corporate giants. If you work for an independent company, they may be interested in charitable giving through match funding too.
We would be grateful if you could see if your employer has a match funding scheme, or if they are willing to match fund any of our events. If you can’t help out this time, but you know the company you work for has a match funding policy, please let us know. This could be a really large source of income for the Friends and help us raise money for our school.
If you are able to help us this way, please let us know and we can discuss your companies’ requirements.
You can now buy tickets for our fundraising events right here on our website!
