Friends of St Michael’s School, Aldbourne
Every parent or carer of children at St Michael’s is a member of the Friends of St Michael’s School, Aldbourne. There is an executive committee (like trustees) of 7 who are responsible for making it legal (as it is a charity) but the more people who would like to be involved the better in every respect – be it baking, helping make events work, coffee mornings or idea generation for fundraising!
What are we raising money for?
Despite government and Church of England funding there will always be a financial shortfall and if our children are to get the education they deserve then we are going to need to help raise money. The school will always have outgoings that need extra funds and this is where the fundraising comes in.
This fundraising has been spent on building works, coaches to theatre trips, chocolate eggs, ice lollies and hot chocolate at events for the children as well as amazing whiteboards and iPads for the classrooms. Everything should help towards our children learning and enjoying their school experience as much as possible.
If you would like to be involved in any of these events, buy a ticket or have some wonderful fundraising ideas of your own then please email email@example.com or better still come along to the next meeting or come to any of the coffee mornings to find out more.
The AUTUMN/ CHRISTMAS TERM was a huge success with events and supreme fund-raising efforts all round!
The school is now proudly sponsored by JONES ROBINSON estate agents and DICK LOVETT in Hungerford. They have kindly donated £2000 and £750 apiece to the school and we will enjoy a relationship with them throughout the year as a result!
POPCORN CLUB was enjoyed by the majority of the school and the kids like the responsibility of choosing their own film. An enthusiastic team helped the children settle and enjoy their chosen film. At £3.50 each it’s a bargain and made the school £322.
OKTOBERFEST was a huge success and everyone who went had a ball with good food, live music and fancy dress! It made £1006 for the school!
The annual WELLY WALK was even more successful than ever, as every child in the school walked their furthest round the school grounds, encouraging younger ones along. Donations were mostly made online this year making an amazing £1569.
The PRE-LOVED UNIFORM SALE didn’t work so well in the autumn as so few parents attended so it’s been decided to do it in the summer term when the sun (will hopefully) shine on us. However, in the 2 sales that were kindly organised we made £135.
The LUXMAS Christmas Fair up at the Court House made a wonderful donation to the school of £351 from its profits.
The WREATH MAKING WORKSHOP was a runaway success, selling out in a record time online. Thanks as ever to the parents who collected foliage and to Ruth Reynolds for organising it with Shirley from Flowers at the Forge. Members of the community and school alike joined in to make some beautiful wreaths to decorate their own doors and to sell at our Christmas Fair and made £573.
Everyone had a great clear out before Christmas and tons were donated to the BAGS2SCHOOL appeal making the school £160.
The FESTIVE FUN RUN and CHRISTMAS FAIR was a wonderful day. Local Olympian, Shelley Rudd, came to do our warm up and cut the ribbon to formally open the new all-weather running track. 180 people (over 50% were children!) entered the run and dressed up with gusto before their 3k sprint round the village, to celebrate with a homemade gingerbread medal at the finish line.
TEA TOWELS were sold at the fair, making £300. The 2 events together made a grand total of £2113 to give to the school. Parents kindly helped with mince pies and mulled wine at the NATIVITY making over £200 and warming us from the inside as we watched our lovely children perform in the church.
We were thrilled to receive £1000 from TESCO BLUE TOKENS over the summer. We are one of the chosen charities for the ALDBOURNE CO-OP again this year – do make sure you sign up and use your Co-op card whenever you purchase anything to continue to support us! Last term alone we raised £114.
Forthcoming dates for your diary are:

- – POPCORN CLUB Friday 8th March

The next FRIENDS OF ST MICHAEL’S MEETING is on Thursday 31st Jan in the school. We’ve got so many great things planned for 2019 and we always need people who can offer a little time and energy to make it work – please do come along for an hour to find out how you can get involved! If you want to know any more do email firstname.lastname@example.org
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH to each and every one of you who helped out, came along, gave some time, donated something – your efforts mean that in last term alone we made over £10,000 what a spectacular effort!
Does your employer offer match funding?
We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you about the Match Funding scheme and how a little bit of your time could raise double the funds.
If you work for an organisation that has a match funding policy, any money you raise could be matched by your employer. Companies may match the fundraising total for an event, or for the stall that their employee is working on. Usually, the employee will need to supply them with a letter from the PTA detailing the date and nature of the event, together with the total raised.
We understand that the high street banks, building societies, supermarkets and large corporations are likely to do match funding. We’ve put together a list of some of the companies that ran schemes in 2017 here. But these schemes are not exclusive to the major corporate giants. If you work for an independent company, they may be interested in charitable giving through match funding too.
We would be grateful if you could see if your employer has a match funding scheme, or if they are willing to match fund any of our events. If you can’t help out this time, but you know the company you work for has a match funding policy, please let us know. This could be a really large source of income for the Friends and help us raise money for our school.
If you are able to help us this way, please let us know and we can discuss your companies’ requirements.
With thanks to our sponsors…
