Friends of St Michael’s School
Every parent or carer of children at St Michael’s is a member of the Friends of St Michael’s School, Aldbourne. There is an executive committee (like trustees) of 7 who are responsible for making it legal (as it is a charity) but the more people who would like to be involved the better in every respect – be it baking, helping make events work, coffee mornings or idea generation for fundraising!
What are we raising money for?
Despite government and Church of England funding there will always be a financial shortfall and if our children are to get the education they deserve then we are going to need to help raise money. The school will always have outgoings that need extra funds and this is where the fundraising comes in.
This fundraising has been spent on building works, coaches to theatre trips, chocolate eggs, ice lollies and hot chocolate at events for the children as well as amazing whiteboards and iPads for the classrooms. Everything should help towards our children learning and enjoying their school experience as much as possible.
So far this year the FoSMS have organised another highly enjoyable disco where the kids had a ball, danced their socks off and raised a whopping £779.
By buying Christmas Cards your children designed you have helped raise £222.
The Welly Walk has so far raised £950 – what a fantastic amount!
The school Christmas Fair was kindly sponsored by Phoenix Extensions and everyone had great fun roller skating round the hall and made £1383!
The wreath-making workshop was as wonderful as ever and the beautiful wreaths graced the doors of Aldbourne raising £550 for the school.
The Burns’ Night Ceilidh (Scottish dancing and disco) shook away the cobwebs of the New Year and raised £1404 – och aye.
The fabulous School Quiz raised £1100 and was a real social highlight.
If you would like to help host a coffee morning after celebration assembly and sell something of your own at the same time then please get in touch. Other parents are wonderful at volunteering some cakes, you just have to help get the coffee out and we would be grateful for a small donation to the FoSMS from your takings.
Second hand school uniform sales are now being held regularly after school as a great way to get rid of outgrown clothes and purchase clothing, shoes and wellies for your rapidly growing children.
If you would like to be involved in any of these events, buy a ticket or have some wonderful fundraising ideas of your own then please email firstname.lastname@example.org or better still come along to the next meeting or come to any of the coffee mornings to find out more.
